I don´t know what November is about. But last week I saw Mamet´s play "Boston marriage" at Arlequin Theatre, and I liked it a lot, very funny. Mamet´s works are usually good, we´ll see if "our actors" maintain the quality...

We saw that two or three years ago, it was very funny and quite good, let´s hope the actors are tolerable!!!

I've been to the theatre this evening. I don't know what to say about the play... I've recognized one of the actors, "the president of the USA", he took place in "aquí no hay quien viva" and his acting is great.
The plot seems to be so simple, easy, but it's a critical way of seeing politicians’ life. Manipulations, bribes ... how they use their power to get what they want.
I've laughed a lot.
It's great that the school encourages us to go to the theatre and the cinema, and then to post here, it's a good way to practise our English and to get some culture.
Go to see it, you'll have a good time!

I liked the play even though I got stressed by having no rest at all because of Mr. President’s never ending speech. I think it to have several good dialogues, some of them, however, said in a bad taste. On the other hand, absurd as the situations are, I dare say real life may be similar sometimes.

As for the acting, Mr. President was credible though a little bit excessive and the rest of the players were also correct except the chief of the tribe.

Clara you are completely right. Nevertheless, there are many people who do not appreciate such an invaluable chance.

Yesterday I enjoyed the play, but not enough. I will try to explain myself. I think the actors and actress were good at their performances, especially Santiago Ramos. The plot was interesting and entertaining, but I do not know why I could not connect with the play and the jokes. Perhaps because I was prepared to see only a comedy and however I faced a hard, acid critic about American society and their values.
Comparing the lines of this plot with Obama’s speech it was as to see two different countries. Obama’s America, as the ideal of a solid, united, country built over Tradition but looking hopefully towards the future and trying to use their Past to establish a strong, new reality, without forgetting Past. On the contrary, the author of our play shows us an unfaithful nation only worried about money and power and using traditions or values only to obtain more and more influence or personal interests.

Yesterday we saw the antireality. I find it really hard to believe that so dimwit a man could reach the power. Though that could be discussed...
The President of "Noviembre" hadn´t got any intelectual capacity nor morality, however, perhaps thank to speeches or who knows why, he got American people´s confidence.
Everything was said in the play was outrageous, bordered on absurd, and that´s what people liked and the reason why they laughed.
Santiago Ramos did a good work, but the rest didn´t, in my opinion; though his perfomance was in some moments very exagerated and heavy (I though he wasn´t going to be able to finish the play, fearing a heart atack!!).

Yesterday I hsve to admit that I didi not like the play much: I disliked the shouting, the swearing and the tedious repetion of sentences, but today as I have been thinking about it I have changed my opinion slightly. It was much better than "un Dios salvaje" and some of the things said were alittle more serious than we thought at first. There was some good in the president and some corruption in the lesbian secretary or scriptwriter.
thanks for the compliments, Clara and Roberto and congratulations to you, María Luisa, for your good review.
I do hope we see a good one before the end of the year!!!

I saw the play, too, but I didn't like it. I had hope to be more funny, I had read a good criticism about it, and perhaps I had more expectation about "November", I think the play has a good plot but I didn't like Santiago Ramos,I think he is a good actor but no for this character it seems so much Spanish, from my point of view he didn't look an American President rather the president of any country of Spain, on the other hand he seemed to me a little be histrionic, however I liked me the other actors, specially the young woman. Finally, I would to say I was opening my mouth for some time.

I found November a disappointment, I´d heard very good reviews but I had the same feeling as Mª Luisa, it didn´t hook me, and for the first half of the play I was really bored. However, I must admit that the acting wasn´t that bad, the setting that replicates the Oval office came off very well, and the audience seemed to find it funny.
As for the story, I think it is repetitive, tiresome, full of clichés that make the play
ordinary in spite of its intended cleverness. It depicts one day in the life of a president whose chances of reelection look grim, his money´s running out and nuclear war might be imminent, but he´s ready to risk it all in attempt to win back public support showing us the lengths to which politicians will go to win. It´s a hard blow after Obama´s reassuring speech!!

Sorry I´ve waited so long to post a comment but I´ve been busy and wasn´t able to. Here it goes. I thought the play was dreadful! The text was bad and the acting terrible specilly the President was just unbelievable! I´m so glad some people thought it funny I didn´t even think it so it just bored me to death. In conclusion a disappointment.
All your comments are very much like mine and the ideas just the ones I have. The never-ending chat of the President the fact that it was impossible to believe, etc.
I´m sure we´ll find the next better it is impossible for it to be worse!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks God I find someone thinking like me!!!I was worried for yesterday I read on a newspaper about Santiago Ramos´ performance, they said he went to the heart of the character, but to tell you the truth as soon as I heard his first word I thought he was stupid,I could never see him in the role of a president but of a fool.
As for the use of swear-words,were they really necessary??? So many...???? So shrill a speech!!!

And what about the indian character? He reminded me to Daniel Boom... hahaha!!!

Nevertheless, trying to be less bitter, I find it possible for others to laugh with the portrayal.

For sure next plays must be better! We´ve been lots of commercial plays, and the better theatre is the alternative one, with better actors who are not so well-known but are more prepared and do more credible performances. I´m looking forward to seeing Hamlet by Pandur. I adore him! I´ve seen three plays of his and they were really marvellous. Let´s see what happens with this one.
Yesterday I saw Leo Bassi´s show. I know the most of you doesn´t like him. I didn´t like him either before, but yesterday I was invited and I accepted... Nothing to lose, you know. But finally, I liked it. It´s true that he is a little bit rough, giving his opinions about controversial issues, and also categorical in his statements. You can share his points of view or not, but, apart from that, what I liked yesterday it was the message he threw, the metaphor inside the play. What he said was a very positive message, full of hope, almost an utopia...; but utopia is neccessary in life, not only is it an illusion, but also a reason to live, something to believe, something to get. Go to see it even though you are not of the left wing.
