Well here goes the first comment: I liked the play, it was well-acted and for me quite hopeful in spite of the fact that it was sad. It was positive in that it said that what you want to see is there even if you can´t actually visualise it,and that things will be there if you want, even if they are not physically present anymore. The morale is that the things we love will always be there so long as we want, and the memory of nice things can help us through in difficult moments. The play was therefore positive. The only snag the actress she was bad in my opinion.

Yes, I also think the actress was bad. I like your words very much, but I am not awake enough to write my answering. I´ll do it tomorrow. Now I will only write (in Spanish) what Goethe said: "Creo que soñamos para no dejar nunca de ver".

I enjoyed the play very much. At the first time, the accent of the actors didn’t let me focus on the performance, but the lines are so good that I forgot the Argentinean accent of the Russians and I started to see the pictures. The scenery, the paintings every time clearer and clearer, behind the actors were very attractive representing the process of our imagination.
As Marta says, nice things could help us to bear bad moments, and beauty too. In a depressed place as Leningrado, at that moment, “activities” as these, could give good spirits for the sad people.
The story was very good for me. Thank you for choosing it for us.

As I said yesterday, here goes my comment: I liked the play a lot. I find this play very difficult to perform because I think that it is more readable than performable. Because it was their thougths and not the action that developes, which is perfect in a novel, but difficult to show in a play. Don´t you think? And, Carmen, however they were communists and atheists, heaven welcomes everybody!!

What can I say having read these wonderful comments! Thanks everybody you really make the blog interesting and worth visiting! Olimpia thanks for your first comment it is very moving and true, I had the same sensations. Paloma I think you have put in words what we all felt. Maria has a point when she says the play is difficult to perform but they manage to make us see the paintings, as Paloma says, the silence proves that we were all listening! And what can I say about our best critics Jaime and Hermy! Your comment is a luxury for this blog or any for that matter! The only thing I don´t quite see is that she acted well, maybe you are right, but I agree more with Paloma she didn´t transmit the intensity of the suffering outside, there was more intensity inside even if it was bare. Thanks for your comments I´ve enjoyed reading them immensely.

Now after all these fantastic comments in comes my modest one. I liked the play, but found the supporting character too tedious!! When right at the end he again declares that he CANNOT see the painting described i thought I could stike him, particularly when all the audience could visualize it. the actress poor. Transmitted NOTHING which was not the case with the other two, I have to agree with Paloma.
María, when I said that about paradise I was thinking of Carla Bruni, that is most people say something, beacause it is politically correct and then want to Marry and be HIS WIFE, or go to heaven!!!
What I liked best was the description of the paintings, how Luppi said his words, he was NATURAL on stage, something impossible for our permorfares, and the use they made at the end of the video, so that we could see the actual painting in a kind of confirmation of the imaginative process.
I certainly think it was worthwhile!

Previous comment was Carmen´s

After reading your comment, anonymous, I think that the play didn´t make you feel cold, because you have said many beautiful words about it!
It is true that sometimes the speech was a little repetitive, but all of us must admit that a play like that is very difficult to perform, as I said, so they did what they could. At least, this play was better than Dos caballeros de Verona or Play Strindberg, which were very bad acted, weren´t they?
Federico Luppi is still a great actor, and he did his role with high talent and realism, which make you introduce in the story, despite of the fact that there were many noisy people in the auditorium!

Sierra dijo...

To define Beauty is very difficult. Each one knows when something is beauty because it makes us feel good and admire it. It is because we think that many people have bad taste if they don´t like something that we appreciate very much. Therefore, our mind must not take part. However, there are universal feelings, lines, aspects, characteristics, which indicate Beauty, like proportion in sculpture, rhythm in music and poetry... And that is what each culture achieves as time goes by. I hope you understand what I mean...

Sierra a very subtle comment...we must think what the concept of beauty is though. Maybe the beauty of the paintings was in the description they made of them not in the paintings themselves. The fact that the paintings were beautiful is not so important, really, what makes them beautiful is the way in which they are described.
